GUESTHOUSES IN NAOSIMA - MIYANOURA AREA

Miyanoura port area is a central part of the island that provides a range of convenient services and there are number of guesthouses. There is a convenience store within walking distance from the ferry terminal, as well as the unique public bath, “I Love Yu Bath House”, where you can experience bathing in the art gallery. This is the only area on the island where you can dine out until late at night, allowing for socializing and having an enjoyable evening. You can take buses to the Benesse Art Site and the Art House Project in the Honmura area. Bicycle rental is also available.

1.Dormitory in Kowloon

A two-story building painted a striking cobalt blue, close by the boat slip of Miyanoura Port serves as a communal lounge on the first floor. Once used as a nightclub, it is furnished with purple sofas and red tables, an enticing environment for guests to meet in and talk over drinks. Sleeping rooms are on the second floor, each equipped with bunk beds. Free Wi-Fi is available.

2.Guest House Qulumu (female dormitory/cottage for group)

The guesthouse opened in 2014 and caters exclusively to women. It was renovated by its female owner who loves the island and is a keen traveler herself. The interior of the house is quaint, decorated in a manner that appeals to women, with three sets of bunk beds near the entrance. There is a shared room for eight people, a private room and further within the house, there is a shared common kitchen and a living room. Free Wi-Fi is available. Breakfast is available as an additional option. Men are allowed only if they hire the entire house, with a maximum of eight guests.

3.Little Plum (co-ed male/female dorm)

This dormitory is only two minutes’ walk from Miyanoura Port, next to the “I Love Yu Bath House”, a public bathhouse designed by Japanese artist Otake Shinro. It began as a café and bar in what previously had been a freight container. The owner decided to also open a guesthouse by putting wooden bunk beds inside. Meals are available at the café & bar next to the guesthouse. From the window of the café you can see a fantastic art piece, “Mt. Fuji of Setouchi”, painted on the wall of the bathhouse’s boiler room to delight guests. Bicycle rental is available.

4.Naoshima Guest House Sakura-Sou (dormitory for mixed sex; single sex/private rooms)

This is the sister hotel to Little Plum, located five minutes on foot from the heart of Miyanoura. Guests can opt for renting a dormitory or single room, or can hire the entire dormitory. The only convenience store on the island is about two minutes' walk away and a bus stop is directly in front of the guesthouse. The hostel is self-catering only, with a fully equipped kitchen where you can cook whatever you are able to buy at the convenience store. The dormitory can accommodate up to 15 guests if you choose to hire the entire venue.

5.Cin.na.mon (private rooms)

Situated only three minutes’ walk from Miyanoura Port, a quaint wooden house that comprises a café and bar on the first floor and three Japanese-style bedrooms on the second floor. Breakfast is included and served in the cafe, where guests can enjoy drinking during the evening. The bar is open until 22:00 and visited by both guests and non-hotel guests, and serves a variety of alcohol
and traditional Japanese snacks.

6.Seven Beach (private rooms)

A cobalt blue signboard serves as a landmark for the guesthouse. In contrast with its sister hostel, the dormitory in Kowloon, all rooms are private. Guests can opt for a Japanese style room, a Western style room, a room with a Japanese futon bed or bunk beds. Although there is no kitchen, a refrigerator is available for shared use. Free Wi-Fi and a shared computer are available.

7.Mrs. Maroulla’s House (cottage rental)

A sister hotel to Seven Beach and for full private use. This well-equipped cottage with a living room and kitchen is ideal for couples and groups. The cottage is colorfully painted, the exterior walls a hot pink color. The room inside is decorated in a floral pattern and is equipped with a comfortable red sofa bed.
